| In 1939, Bob Bowman had a fantastic year, going 13-5 and registering 9 saves, which led the league that year in an era when saves were hard to come by. He was most notorious though for nearly killing Joe Medwick when he beaned him during a game before which he had engaged in a heated argument with Medwick.
